High School Students Explore ACC Programs at Applied Technologies Open House

High school students take part in a demonstration at the applied technologies open house.Â

More than 1,000 high school students from across Central Texas assembled on April 12 at ACC’s Round Rock Campus for the second annual applied technologies open house. Students had the opportunity to get hands on-experience and learn more about the college’s Automotive Technology, Building Construction Technology, and Welding Technology programs.

For the students, all of whom are enrolled in technical preparation programs, the open house gave them a glimpse into what ACC offers. Many of them are earning college-level workforce credit that can be claimed when they enroll at ACC.

“I’m learning a lot about ACC by talking with the instructors and actually seeing what I can do here,” said James Breuel, a senior at Fredericksburg High School.

Participants also had the opportunity to take part in training demonstrations and a welding competition. Representatives from local companies were on hand to talk with students about career options.

“ACC does an excellent job of preparing this sector of the workforce, and the open house extends that to the next generation of employees,” said Dean Bridges, district manager for Flame Technologies, a Cedar Park-based gas apparatus manufacturer. “These students are learning about career opportunities and the pathway to get there.”
