ACC Puts Finishing Touches on Hays Campus; Student Registration Open

Major construction work is complete for the new Austin Community College Hays Campus, set to open in January. It is the first community college campus in Hays County and is expected to enroll nearly 1,000 students in the spring.

Hays Campus opens in January.

“Our family has watched the campus go up since the groundbreaking last year, and this is what we’ve been waiting for,” says BJ Slacks, a Kyle resident who plans to study renewable energy. “I’m excited for both me and my son to take college classes without having to drive into Austin.”

Registration for the spring semester is under way; the campus opens on the first day of classes, January 13. (See the Hays Campus spring schedule; students can register online.) A grand opening celebration is planned for January 16.

“The college is excited to open the doors of our newest full-service campus,” says Dr. Richard Rhodes, ACC president/CEO. “We are ready to serve the Hays community.”

The campus is located in Kyle, at Kohlers Crossing and Kyle Parkway. The 88,000-square-foot building will offer a wide variety of transferable academic courses as well as career training in areas such as business, computer networking and security, and child development. The campus features classrooms, labs, student services, a library and media center, a Student Life office, student commons area, and more. The campus has a capacity of 2,000 students.

“It means a lot to our community to have this campus come to fruition,” says Terry Mazurek, a Hays CISD resident. “North Hays County is growing rapidly, and we need this campus as a resource for residents as well as for businesses that depend on a skilled workforce.”
