Join ACC's Third Annual Texas Independence Day Celebration at Eastview Campus, March 4

Austin Community College will host its third annual multicultural celebration for Texas Independence Day on Tuesday, March 4. The event will run 5-8 p.m. at Eastview Campus (3401 Webberville Rd., Room 8500).

Students, faculty, and staff will enjoy music, food, and presentations reflecting on this key period in Texas history. March 2 is the 178th anniversary of the signing of the Texas Declaration of Independence, signifying Texas’ separation from Mexico and the founding of the Republic of Texas.

Guest speakers will include former State Senator Gonzalo Barrientos, History Professor Dr. David Lauderback, History Professor Dr. Mariano Diaz Miranda, and ACC Board of Trustees Chair Jeffrey Richard.

Students will also take part in an interactive exercise putting together a Constitution of the Republic as Texans did historically, making quick decisions about the kind of government they will have and how it will run.

The celebration is presented by ACC’s Center for Public Policy and Political Studies and its Center for Student Political Studies. Dickey’s Barbecue Pit and Casa Chapala will provide food.
