ACC Campuses, Centers Close at 8 p.m. Monday, March 3

Cold weather is returning to Central Texas and the Hill Country! I am sending this message to let you know that ACC is monitoring continuously the weather and road conditions throughout the ACC Service Area. We are coordinating information with the regional Emergency Operations Centers, and with officials from the city, county, area universities, school districts, and numerous other agencies. Below is the most updated information available this afternoon.

Weather Update:

A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for the Metro-Austin area. Temperatures currently are at-or-below freezing and will remain freezing overnight. Precipitation is expected to begin at approximately 8:00 p.m. to midnight tonight, reaching peak intensity around sunrise tomorrow (Tuesday), and then will begin to taper off later in the morning.

Anticipated Road Conditions:

Light ice accumulations are possible on bridges, flyovers, and some roads. Exposed surfaces where cold air can get underneath (e.g., cars, decks, etc.) also may see light icing. More significant impacts could occur on some roads located within the Winter Storm Warning area. These roads may become ice-covered. Drivers and walkers are advised to use extreme caution.

Power Outages:

There are no reported power outages at this time.

Monday, March 3rd Evening Schedule for ACC Campuses and Centers:

All ACC campuses, centers, and facilities will close tonight at 8:00 p.m. ACC District Police will close and secure all locations at 8:30 p.m. tonight. The ACC Board of Trustees meeting, scheduled at 6:00 p.m. at HBC, will be held. All other classes, activities, and events at ACC campuses, centers, and facilities will close at 8:00 p.m. tonight.

Tuesday, March 4th Schedule for ACC Campuses and Centers:

We are continuing to monitor the weather conditions and will send additional announcements by approximately 4:00 a.m. tomorrow (Tuesday) morning regarding the college’s schedule for tomorrow. We also have five ACC campuses (NRG, PIN, SAC, RRC, and HYS) that are election polling locations for tomorrow. In the event of a delayed opening, the polling sites also will have a delayed start.

Communication Updates:

We will participate in weather-related conference calls throughout this evening and tomorrow morning with the regional Emergency Operations Centers and other agencies and will keep you updated via email to all ACC faculty, staff, and students. Please check your e-mail; or the ACC homepage at austincc.edu; or Facebook; or Twitter; or your local television or radio station for possible schedule changes.

Heat up the hot chocolate again!

Take care and warm best wishes,
