Employers Gather to Learn About Accelerated Programmer Training

Austin Community College and the Austin Chamber of Commerce co-hosted an open house on March 25 to inform businesses and employers about how ACC’s Accelerated Programmer Training (APT) Program is filling the region’s need for skilled computer programmers.

Attendees received an in-depth look at how the APT Program prepares students for high-demand tech careers through competency-based learning and the benefits of becoming an APT industry partner. Industry partners will have the first chance to recruit from APT Program graduates before they enter the tech job market.

“We want to take advantage of this opportunity to get new talent with a fresh eye,” says Casey McKinney, senior consultant with area IT staffing firm Cogent Infotech. “We’re looking to partner with ACC to hire grads and interns. It’s a win-win situation for us.”

Representatives from Lone Star Community College and Valencia College also attended to gain insight into APT’s competency-based learning model.

A second event is planned for April 29 at the Austin Chamber of Commerce. To obtain registration details call (512) 478.9383 or visit the registration page.
