Foster care youth invited to gathering; registration deadline May 23

ACC also hosts foster care conference

Current and former foster care youth interested in college have a few days left to register for a gathering co-hosted by Austin Community College and Education Reach for Texans. The daylong event will be Thursday, May 29, at the Highland Business Center, 5930 Middle Fiskville Road.

Current and former foster care youth are invited to attend. The event is free, but registration is required at Education Reach for Texans. The deadline to register is Friday, May 23.

The foster care youth gathering serves as a kickoff for the fifth annual Education Reach for Texans Conference, scheduled for May 30 at ACC Highland, 6001 Airport Blvd. The conference brings together higher education representatives and foster care advocates committed to eliminating barriers to postsecondary success.

“We know that young people in foster care, as well as those who have aged out, face overwhelming challenges,” says Dr. Kathleen Christensen, ACC vice president of student services. “We are working to break down the barriers to a college education and help these individuals achieve their dreams.”
