ACC Kicks Off Fall Registration with New Campus, Programs

The opening of Austin Community College’s Highland Campus, a new career training program, and an innovative way to learn math are among the highlights at ACC this fall. Registration for fall classes starts June 9 for new students, with classes beginning August 25.

The Highland Campus features a modern design with plenty of natural light.

Highland Campus will be one of ACC’s largest locations, with capacity to serve 6,000 students. It provides convenient rail and bus access as well as ample parking. The campus will be open seven days a week and hold day, night, and weekend classes, including:

  • Core curriculum courses needed to earn a college degree.
  • Developmental education and Adult Education to achieve college readiness.
  • Continuing Education to enhance job skills.

“Whether you’re new to college, returning to finish your degree, or want to add to your resume, Highland Campus is a great choice,” says Dorado Kinney, Highland Campus dean of student services. “It will offer a wide range of programs to help students reach their goals—from college readiness to degree completion and professional development.”

Highland Campus will be home to a new course that will give students the chance to complete their developmental math requirements in a single class—potentially saving them time and tuition costs. Developmental Mathematics (MATD 0421) will be taught at the Accelerator, Highland Campus’ high-tech learning lab with 600+ computer stations to facilitate personalized instruction.

“Students can move quickly through material they grasp and take additional time with material they find more challenging,” says Dr. Constance Elko, chair of the Math Department. “This is an opportunity for each student to have developmental math curriculum that is truly individualized.”

The fall semester also marks the launch of ACC’s Veterinary Technology Program, designed to train students to assist veterinarians in the care of animals. Employment of veterinary technicians is expected to grow significantly in the coming years in Texas and across the country. The program will be based at Elgin Campus, with prerequisite classes available at other ACC locations.
