ACC Hosts U.S. Secretary of Education for Student Roundtable

Austin Community College hosted U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan June 20, 2014, for a roundtable discussion with students. The conversation focused on the experiences of men of color and the opportunities that put them on the path to success.

The roundtable was part of the My Brother’s Keeper initiative, a White House program to help young men of color reach their full potential. The discussion was moderated by Marco Davis, deputy director for the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics.

“Nationwide, men of color are the least likely to persist in their education and achieve a college degree,” says Dr. Richard Rhodes, ACC president/CEO. “ACC is committed to the success of all students, and we have a number of efforts focused on this group in particular. The roundtable provided a great opportunity to explore what works and have our students’ voices heard on the national level.”
