Celebrate Highland Campus grand opening August 27

The campus is located in the heart of Central Texas.

The community is invited to attend a grand opening celebration of the Austin Community College Highland Campus, 6101 Airport Blvd., from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 27.

“This is a great opportunity to see the transformation of Highland into a state-of-the-art center for learning,” says Dr. Richard Rhodes, ACC president/CEO. “ACC Highland is a project unlike any other in the nation, and we look forward to opening the doors to the campus—the first phase of Highland redevelopment. We believe this campus truly sets a new standard in higher education.”

Guest speakers include Dr. Sean Roden, an ACC graduate who went on to become a NASA flight surgeon and expeditionary physician at the South Pole.

“If not for ACC, I wouldn’t be where I am today,” says Dr. Roden. “I want to encourage all ACC students that they can reach their goals—I am living proof.”

Highland Campus is a renovation of 200,000 square feet of space formerly occupied by J.C. Penney at Highland Mall, now known as ACC Highland. The campus includes state-of-the-art classrooms, computer labs, study areas, library, student commons, and ACCelerator—the nation’s largest learning lab, which provides 604 computer stations for individualized instruction through technology.

Highland Campus is ACC's 11th full-service location.

Highland Campus is located on the northwest side of ACC Highland (formerly Highland Mall). Plenty of parking is available, or take advantage of nearby Capital Metro bus and rail stops. Can’t be there? The event will be livestreamed on the ACC website.

The grand opening will include a short program, ribbon-cutting, self-guided tours, and free refreshments. Get more information and RSVP on the event webpage.

The ACC Highland Campus is the college’s 11th campus. It opens to students August 13, and classes begin August 25.
