Number of ACC Foundation scholarship awards increase

The number of student scholarships awarded this fall by the Austin Community College Foundation has increased for the 12th consecutive year.

The Foundation awarded more than $825,000 to more than 500 students for the current fiscal year, an increase of 18 percent over fiscal year 2015, when 426 students received funds totaling $657,985. Total funds awarded have increased 38 percent since fiscal year 2013.

Stephanie Diina-Dempsey, Foundation executive director, credits the Foundation Board of Directors for the increase in funds available for scholarships.

“Our Foundation board members have worked tirelessly in the community talking about ACC and its impact on our region, which in turn has attracted new donors,” she says.

Dempsey says faculty and staff should encourage students to check out scholarships listed on the ACC Scholarship List webpage.

“Normally, spring scholarships are somewhat program-specific, but we have more this year that have broad criteria, so more students can benefit,” she says.

Established in 1991, the Austin Community College Foundation has raised more than $13 million to support college programs and scholarships.
