ACC joins national Red Ribbon Week drug prevention campaign

Austin Community College (ACC) will join colleges and universities nationwide to raise awareness of drug and alcohol abuse prevention during Red Ribbon Week October 26-30.

“Substance abuse by college students is a major issue across the nation,” says Dr. Virginia Fraire, ACC vice president of student services. “ACC is dedicated to providing a safe, healthy environment. Counselors are available on every campus with access to resources, free screenings, and referrals.”

Beginning Monday, October 26, the college will begin offering free, confidential drug and alcohol screenings to students on campus.  Screening opportunities are available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Student Commons at the following campuses during Red Ribbon Week:

  • Cypress Creek Campus: Monday, October 26
  • Highland Campus: Tuesday, October 27
  • Riverside Campus: Wednesday, October 28

Employee workshops also are offered during Red Ribbon Week.

The ACC Red Ribbon Week campaign is hosted by ACC Counseling Services, which provides drug and alcohol abuse prevention programs in addition to academic advising.
