ACC police sergeant receives local NAACP award

Austin Community College District Police Sgt. Clayton Harris will receive the Austin NAACP’s 2015 Captain Louie White award on Saturday, December 5, for his service to the community and his work to ensure residents have better police protection.

“I’m honored and humbled to receive this recognition,” says Sgt. Harris. “It’s my goal to provide a safe campus and community that ACC students, faculty, and staff deserve.”

Harris has held leadership roles in numerous organizations during his 38 years in law enforcement. He joined ACC in 1999 and currently serves at the Elgin Campus.

“Sgt. Harris is more than deserving of this award,” says Nelson Linder, Austin NAACP president. “His continued dedication and outstanding service to the community sets an example for his fellow officers of today and tomorrow.”

The Austin NAACP will present the award to Sgt. Harris during its 50th DeWitty/Overton Freedom Fund Banquet in Austin.
