Austin Community College’s intramural basketball all-stars battled to hold their title against Australia’s John Paul College Eagles Wednesday, December 9.
The exhibition basketball games were the college’s fifth face-off against Australia. The men’s team won while the Lady Riverbats narrowly lost the title.
“This game puts a spotlight on the players and their talents,” says Tracy Partin, ACC intramural sports & recreation coordinator. “They also get to experience a new culture. It’s always exciting.”
Sponsored by ACC Student Life, the college’s intramural sports take place in fall and spring, with registration opening the first week of each semester.
Sports include men’s and women’s soccer, co-rec soccer, co-rec flag football, men’s and women’s basketball, co-rec bowling and women’s volleyball.
“Excitement for the intramurals programs has grown over the years with opportunities like this one to play against international teams,” says Partin. “The hard part is picking just a few players to form the team. We have a great group with a lot of talent.”
