ACC hosts Leander campus groundbreaking April 21

LeanderGroundbreaking-LPbannerAustin Community College will host a ceremonial groundbreaking for its much-anticipated new campus in Leander Thursday, April 21, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

The celebration will be held at the campus site (enter from the Hwy. 183A frontage road south of San Gabriel Parkway) and feature remarks by community leaders, musical performances, and refreshments.

RSVP now for the groundbreaking celebration.

The Leander campus, to be known as ACC San Gabriel Campus, will have initial capacity for 2,500 students and include classrooms, science labs, a library, and the college’s second ACCelerator computer lab. The approximately 106,000-square-foot building will be designed to integrate with the natural features of its 100-acre site, including the nearby San Gabriel River. The campus is expected to open summer 2018.

“This campus will be a vital part of the City of Leander,” says Bridget Brandt, president and CEO of the Leander Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Center and member of the Leander Campus Advisory Committee (CAC). “Water is the most versatile of any element. My hope is the namesake of this campus will contribute those same fundamental properties to the students who choose this campus. It’s important that the name reflects the entire community, and our aspirations to it.”

ACC’s Board of Trustees voted unanimously on the campus name based on recommendations from the Leander CAC.

“This has been a long-standing vision in the Leander community. The San Gabriel Campus affirms ACC’s commitment to increasing pathways to higher education across Central Texas,” says ACC Board Chair Dr. Vic Villarreal.  “It’s exciting to see it come to fruition.”
