ACC Choir recognized by City of Austin

The City of Austin will recognize the Austin Community College District (ACC) choir with a proclamation declaring April 21, 2016, as ACC Choir Day.

“The ACC choral program provides a wonderful creative outlet for singers in our community,” says Leslie Pool, Austin City Council member, District 7. “It’s exciting to share their remarkable talents with the community.”

More than 30 members of the ACC choir will perform at City Hall following the proclamation at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 21.

“It is an honor to receive this recognition from our city leaders,” says Virginia Volpe, ACC music professor. “The ACC choir has been active in the community for years. It’s a talented group of people, from those who are seeking a degree to those who simply want to join a choral ensemble.”

Members of the ACC Choral and Vocal Program range from 17 to 60 years old. The program is open to all ACC students. Members of the community also may join through the college’s Continuing Education Division, and high school students are eligible to enroll through dual-credit courses.

The choir is preparing for its spring concert. Performances will take place at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 29 and 30, at First Presbyterian Church (8001 Mesa Drive). The shows are free and open to the public.
