ACC hosts veteran authors for book readings and conversations

ACC Library Services hosts a series of readings and discussions as part of Read Across Texas: The Veteran Experience, a statewide reading program sponsored by the Texas Center for the Book.

“Read Across Texas encourages communities to engage in tough but important conversations that surround the story of those who have bravely served our country,” says Sheila Ross Henderson, ACC Round Rock Campus head librarian. “We examine what happens when these veterans come home.”

The first event will be held 9 to 10 a.m. Friday, February 10, at the Veterans Resource Center in ACC Highland (6001 Airport Blvd).  ACC Veterans Affairs Manager Mark Harden will lead a reading and discussion of his book, “Losing Mogadishu.” Participants also will hear an excerpt from and discuss author Ben Fountain’s novel, “Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk.”

Additional readings are scheduled for 9 to 10 a.m. February 17 and 24 at the Veterans Resource Center.

The events are free and open to the public. Partners include ACC Veterans Affairs Office and VetSuccess, Round Rock Public Library, Texas Center for the Book, and the Texas State Library and Archives Commission.
