BlueCross BlueShield of Texas replaces UnitedHealthcare

On September 1 BlueCross and BlueShield of Texas (BCBSTX) will replace UnitedHealthcare as the plan administrator for HealthSelect of Texas and Consumer Directed HealthSelect insurance plans. (BCBSTX was the administrator prior to 2012.)

The change in plan administrators does not directly impact rates, copays, or coinsurance – those are negotiated and set by the Employee Retirement System of Texas (ERS) and are effective September 1.

Beginning May 23 employees will be able to visit the new BCBSTX HealthSelect website to:

  • View general information about plan benefits and what to expect.
  • Use a Provider Search Tool to see whether their current primary care provider (PCP) or other providers will be in the BCBSTX HealthSelect network.
  • Get help finding an in-network PCP or specialist if their current provider is not in the network.
  • Nominate a provider to be added to the HealthSelect network.

Employees also can contact ERS with questions toll-free at 800-252-8039 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Monday – Friday or 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Benefits enrollment is July 9 – July 22

This year’s annual benefits enrollment begins July 9. Employees should verify their address information with ERS to avoid missing important communication about insurance plan changes, including details about the transition to BCBSTX, new HealthSelect ID cards, and more.

To verify contact information, log in through the ERS Access My Account webpage or call ERS at 877-275-4377.

HR will host the annual benefits enrollment fair and ERS presentation on July 13 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Highland Business Center Room 201. Employees can ask ERS vendors about the various plans. Additional information also will be available in June on the ERS website.

PEP evaluation system now live

The online Performance Excellence Program (PEP) System is now available for supervisors and employees. All classified, professional-technical, and administrator employees participate in the PEP process. Evaluations must be completed by August 4.

PEP workshops for employees and supervisors will be offered May 15 through June 2 on various campuses. Register through the Workshop and Event Registration Database.

For questions, contact Cameron Keel, staff evaluation coordinator, at [email protected] or 512-223-7984.
