ACC Jazz Ensemble to join Redd Volkaert for benefit concert

The Austin Community College (ACC) Jazz Ensemble is teaming with Grammy-winning guitarist Redd Volkaert to offer a benefit concert, saluting a shared passion for the music of Patsy Cline and Hank Williams.

The concert is set for 7 p.m. Thursday, August 31, at Little Woodrow’s Southpark Meadows (Southpark Meadows Shopping Center, 9500 I-35, Suite 100). Funds will benefit the Dell Children’s Hospital Surgical Mission Team.

The show will debut a new vibrant music score by ACC Jazz Ensemble’s Artistic Director Dr. Thomas “Bop” Husak, including new arrangements of Volkaert’s hits “She Loves Anything That Swings,” “Sleep Walk,” and the newly released “Never met but one woman I didn’t like, but I married her anyway.”

The jazz/country swing fusion concert also includes performances of classics from the Great American Country-Western Songbook such as Willie Nelson’s “NightLife.”

The ACC Jazz Ensemble is recognized for its ability to combine musical tradition and innovation. The group has a decades-long commitment to playing benefit shows for charities and community organizations.
