Summer Global Issues Speaker Series examines Democracy in Eastern Europe

Austin Community College will present a discussion of the Democracy in Eastern Europe as part of the college’s 2018 Global Issues Speaker Series.

Hosted by ACC’s International Programs, the presentation is Wednesday, June 27, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Eastview Campus, Room 8500 (3101 Webberville Rd.).

ACC English professor Dr. Charles Wukasch will examine the political and economic changes which swept Eastern Europe during the late 80’s and early 90’s.

“This was a critical time in Eastern Europe as the World reflected on whether the changes happening in the political sphere were a cause for optimism or pessimism,” says Dr. Wukasch. “Western institutions were assumed to have demonstrated their moral superiority, but the changes in Eastern Europe often resulted in anarchy and ethnic cleansing.”

The event is free and open to the public.
