ACC accepting applications for free college prep program

Classes equip students with knowledge and tools to enter college & succeed

Enrollment is underway for Austin Community College’s summer Transitions Program, a free college preparation course for adults. Applications are due by Friday, May 8.

The free program helps high school graduates and GED earners get ready for college. Students receive one-on-one advising and attend workshops and classes focused on reading, writing, and math.

“This is an intense, but powerful program. When students leave here they have the skill set for success,” says Charlene Gill, Transitions coordinator. “They learn how to take notes, how to manage their time effectively, and how to balance work and school with friends and family.”

The 12-week course begins Tuesday, May 26, with day and evening classes at Highland Campus (6101 Airport Blvd.).

Participants must be 18 or older, with a GED or high school diploma. Current and former Developmental Education students are encouraged to apply. Applicants participate in a brief interview before enrolling and must maintain a 75 percent attendance rate for the course.
