ACC celebrates 10 years at South Austin Campus

The Austin Community College District (ACC) invites students and the community to celebrate the 10th anniversary of ACC’s South Austin Campus Thursday, August 4, with a fiesta from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in the campus courtyard (1820 W. Stassney Lane).

The free event will feature guest speakers, refreshments, and live music by Mariachi Estrella.

“It’s a wonderful milestone at South Austin Campus,” says Tim Kelly, SAC campus manager. “The celebration honors the students, staff, and neighbors who have helped make SAC a landmark institution in the community.”

South Austin Campus serves a diverse student population; 44 percent of students who attend there identify as Hispanic and 5 percent identify as African-American. According ACC student data, credit enrollment at the campus has grown 37 percent from 2,252 students in fall 2006 to 3,084 in fall 2015.

“This is an exciting achievement. When we built this campus, we opened the door to higher education for thousands,” says Guadalupe Sosa, ACC Trustee. “I’m so proud to have played a small part in such an important and instrumental piece of our college.”

Overflow parking for the event will be available at Crockett High School across from the campus.
