ACC Highland project wins local, state, and national awards

Austin Community College’s Highland Campus continues to receive local, state, and national recognition with three new awards presented in recent weeks.

14870044897_acd8f347c8_zThe Austin Business Journal awarded Highland Campus with the Commercial Real Estate Overall Best Project award which recognizes projects that take risk to advance, preserve, or positively change the community.

The campus also is recognized for its extraordinary technology winning Campus Technology magazine’s Innovator award.

The American Institute of Architects-Austin (AIA) presented the campus with its Design award which recognizes architectural excellence.

“ACC has breathed new life into what was a dead mall,” says Patricia Oliver, AIA judge. “I just think it’s heroic.”

The ACC Highland project transformed the former JCPenney department store at Highland Mall into a 214,000 square-foot state-of-the-art center for innovative learning.HLC Star

The campus features learning labs, a library/media center, and the nation’s largest computer lab, the ACCelerator, featuring more than 600 computer stations for individualized learning.

ACC Highland is the product of collaboration designed and constructed with green building methods to achieve LEED certification.
