ACC invites community to annual Juneteenth Festival

Austin Community College (ACC) invites the community to its annual Juneteenth Festival 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, June 16, at Eastview Campus (3401 Webberville Rd.) to commemorate the announcement of the abolition of slavery in Texas.

The free event, sponsored by the ACC African-American Cultural Center and the Center for Public Policy and Political Studies (CPPPS), features entertainment, games and family-friendly activities, and information about getting started and paying for college.

“Austin played an integral role in the grassroots movement for civil rights,” says Roland Hayes, ACC African-American Cultural Center director. “This is a time to reflect on our past, celebrate our progress, and continue moving forward.”

ACC students, faculty, and staff also will participate in the Central Texas Juneteenth Historical Parade on Saturday, June 17. The event begins at 10 a.m. at Comal Street and MLK Boulevard.

For more information, contact Hayes at 512-223-5166 or email [email protected].
