ACC speaker series examines human trafficking in South Asia

Austin Community College examines the issue of human trafficking in South Asia during a presentation Wednesday, July 27, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Riverside Campus, Room G8100 (1020 Grove Blvd.).

ACC Communication Studies Adjunct Professor George McLemore will discuss the societal effects of human trafficking, particularly in Bangladesh and India. According to the U.S. Department of State, Bangladesh is a source and transit country for men, women, and children trafficked to India for the purposes of forced labor and commercial sexual exploitation.

“Although a serious world-wide problem, human trafficking is most graphically and tragically revealed in the world’s largest democracy,” McLemore says. “We invite students and the community to be a part of a discussion they won’t forget.”

The free event is part of a global issues speaker series presented by ACC’s International Programs Office and is open to the public.
