ACC to adopt new tools, processes for enrollment, registration

Austin Community College is adopting new tools and modifying activities to ease the on-boarding process for incoming students. An overview of plans follows; details will be posted in the coming months.

GPS discontinued: Beginning June 1, first-time-in-college students will participate in one-on-one advising instead of a GPS (group planning session) class. The college is eliminating GPS to reduce the number of times prospective students must come to campus to complete enrollment steps. Students will meet with an advisor or counselor at any campus once they’ve submitted their residency form and transcripts and verified their TSI status.

Enrollment steps videos: The college is producing brief videos that walk incoming students through processes for obtaining an ACCeID, submitting transcripts and residency forms, and complying with meningitis immunization requirements. ACC plans to include a link to the videos in the confirmation email the college sends students acknowledging their application has been processed.

New online tools: In the fall ACC will replace the WebAdvisor tool, which students now access via Online Services, with Ellucian’s Self Service application. Students will use Self Service to create academic plans, register for classes, manage financial aid, view grades, and receive notifications. WebAdvisor and Self Service will run in parallel during the transition. View an Ellucian video about Self Service.

Online portal: The new tools and processes will be supported by an online portal to replace Online Services that will make it easier for students to receive and access information that is targeted to them. The college hopes to have a soft launch of the portal and the new online tools later in the fall.
