Work is progressing rapidly on bond-funded capital improvement projects at several campuses. Read summaries below and stay-up-to-date on each project through the ACC Bond Construction Projects website.

San Gabriel: Framework completed

Construction crews, architects, and engineers joined college and community leaders for a topping-out celebration June 7 at the campus site. See photos from the event and a brief video about the project at ACC San Gabriel Campus marks construction milestone.

Foundations have been poured. Crews are installing exterior framing and the middle structure is being set. Above-ceiling work (fire sprinkler pipe, duct work, plumbing lines, and electrical conduit/boxes) continues in the building’s east wing. The concrete masonry core of the west-wing stair/elevator tower is complete.

Proposals for campus streets not previously named will be submitted to the City of Leander.

Highland Phase 2: Pre-construction work continues

Teams have completed design development. Abatement is complete and interior demolition is nearing completion. Crews have begun installing a separation wall to seal off the construction area.

Construction is ongoing for temporary space in Building 4000 to house fine arts, performing arts, and computer science programs that are relocating from Rio Grande Campus. Meanwhile, the college is meeting with future user groups to identify furniture and equipment needs

A Request for Qualifications has been issued to solicit proposals for the design and construction of a parking garage on the southeast side of the former mall.

Rio Grande: Building closes in advance of demolition

Rio Grande Campus Building 1000 classrooms have closed, and faculty and staff are relocating to other campuses during the summer. The campus remains open to students, offering more than 100 classes in Building 3000.

Design development for the building’s renovation and restoration continues. ACC teams and project architects are working with preservationists to ensure plans reflect the original building design and intent. Plans will be presented to the City of Austin’s Historic Landmark Commission for approval this summer.

On July 22 college representatives will gather with the community to celebrate the Rio Grande Campus Renovation Groundbreaking for the 100-year-old facility.

Pre-construction demolition and abatement is scheduled to begin late summer and continue through the end of the year.

Round Rock: Foundation work, steel framing to begin

The crawlspace excavation for the new building is complete and piers have been drilled and poured. The elevator pit slab has been placed and pit wall construction is ongoing. Crews also have begun installing underground site utilities.

The concrete slab for the building’s first floor is scheduled to be complete by the end of June, to be followed by the second and third floor slabs. Structural steel installation is scheduled to be complete mid-August.

SpawGlass, the project’s construction manager at-risk, is tweeting updates about the project using the Twitter handle @ACC_RR_Phase 2.

Elgin: Site work progresses

Building foundations have been poured, underground utilities are being installed, and miscellaneous site work, such as perimeter drain installation, is ongoing.

Hays: College and community break ground

Community leaders and friends joined the college for a May 9 groundbreaking celebration for new Hays Campus facilities. The project remains on target for completion next summer.

Districtwide upgrades

Work on air-conditioning and ventilation systems at Cypress Creek Campus is underway; a second phase of the work will be performed before the fall semester.

Electrical system upgrades and preventative maintenance are ongoing at Pinnacle and Riverside campuses and at Highland Building 4000. Systems at Northridge, Eastview, Cypress Creek, and Round Rock campuses also will be upgraded. Safer, updated systems will be easier to maintain and will lessen the impact of power failures.

New lighting is being installed at Riverside Campus gym.

Staff from the Building and Grounds Office also are working with construction design teams to incorporate energy-efficient, easy-to-maintain electrical systems in new facilities.
