New street names approved for San Gabriel campus

The Austin Community College District Board of Trustees approved names for five additional streets at the San Gabriel campus.

The approved street names and their connection to ACC are:

ACCelerator Avenue: This street recognizes ACC’s innovative computer lab for individualized and modularized learning. The San Gabriel Campus will feature the district’s second ACCelerator.

Equity Way: This street is named in recognition of ACC’s commitment to equity and inclusion.

Education Lane: The forefront of ACC’s mission is to serve as a leader in higher education in the Central Texas region.

Riverbat Drive: The Riverbat is ACC’s mascot. It is a vibrant representation of the college and the communities ACC serves across Central Texas.

Wellstone Bend: Named in honor of the historic wellstone discovered near San Gabriel Campus, the wellstone once served as a marker for travelers through Leander. The 30-foot-by-30-foot rock will be incorporated into the landscaping.

“That street name not only connects to the area’s past, but it also symbolizes the college’s role in guiding students toward future success and fulfillment,” says Dr. Molly Beth Malcolm, ACC executive vice president of campus operations & public affairs.

Names were submitted by the board officers and administration, along with the history committee, Campus Advisory Committee, and faculty and staff.  The names will not be official until accepted by the City of Leander.

The new San Gabriel Campus will serve one of the fastest-growing areas in the region and relieve crowding at ACC’s Cypress Creek and Round Rock campuses. It is one of several ongoing projects funded by the 2014 voter-approved bonds. For more information, visit the bond webpage at austincc.edu/vision.
