New student health insurance plan to begin August 22

Austin Community College has finalized a new 2018-19 health insurance plan for students. Offered through United Healthcare, plans will be available to purchase by semester or for a 12-month period.

The new policy begins August 22.

“We are committed to providing the best possible plan for our students,” says Dr. Wayne Maines, ACC vice president of safety and operations. “Our existing insurance provider increased the financial responsibility of our students, tripling the credit hour requirements to 9 hours and doubling the cost. We explored other opportunities in the best interest of our students.”

The new plan complies with Affordable Care Act and state requirements and includes an option to add dental coverage. Enrollment is open to all eligible students as mandated by the insurance company. To be eligible, United Healthcare requires students enroll in at least 6 credit hours, three of which may be distance learning. Continuing Education courses that are integrated with credit programs also satisfy eligibility requirements.

Students can enroll during open enrollment beginning August 1. United Healthcare requires the premium payment upon enrollment. For more information about premiums and deductibles, visit the enrollment website at www.uhcsr.com/austincc. The website will be available on August 1.
