Dr. Julie Todaro, ACC dean of library services, has received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Texas Library Association. The award honors a longstanding TLA member for their exemplary career, creative leadership, and service to the profession.

Todaro oversees libraries at eight campuses and three centers. During her 26-year tenure with the college, she has led the Library Services team in the design of libraries at the South Austin and Round Rock campuses, and in the redesign and expansion of libraries at older campuses. Under her leadership, Library Services has been recognized for several initiatives, including the award-winning “Know How” program to promote information literacy among students.

“Julie has helped build a comprehensive and integrated library services network that combines the traditional components of a library – information, reference and research – with extensive instructional and technical support,” says Richard Smith, ACC associate vice president of instructional resources. “She has worked tirelessly to ensure ACC students have the resources they need to succeed.”

Todaro has been a library manager for 39 years. She has been president of the Texas Library Association and the Association of College and Research Libraries, and has held leadership roles with the American Library Association. She is a founder and member of the statewide steering committee for the Texas Book Festival and has served as a member of the Austin Public Library’s Advisory Board and Foundation Board. Todaro holds a master’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin and a doctorate degree from Columbia University.
