Associate Director of Development

As a key member of the development team for the local affiliate of a national non-profit organization, the Associate Director of Development is responsible for implementing and managing leadership giving($1,000 - $4,999), donor acquisition and retention activities and other individual giving efforts as part of a strategic fund development program for the agency.


  • Bachelor’s degree and at least three (3) years of professional fundraising experience preferred
  • Demonstrated success in planning, implementing, and analyzing individual giving initiatives including direct mail, electronic appeals, social media campaigns, donor acquisition, in-kind giving, etc
  • Demonstrated success in soliciting and securing gifts of $1,000 or more
  • Superior communication skills (both written and verbal), organizational skills, and time management skills are required
  • Graphic design and web design experience a plus

Essential Functions

  • Manage leadership giving program and maintain a portfolio of individual leadership gift donors and prospects
  • Cultivate and solicit donors for leadership gifts of $1,000+
  • Plan and execute annual giving and donor acquisition campaigns including direct mail, Amplify Austin, School Supply Drive, e-appeals, social media appeals, etc.
  • Plan and execute donor stewardship plan for all first-time and Leadership Giving donors.
  • Identify new leadership giving prospects through database analysis, board referrals, community networking, and other research
  • Analyze and report on key individual giving metrics annually in order to assess effectiveness of individual giving activities and enhance fundraising results
  • Build and maintain positive, effective relationships with donors, prospects, agency staff, and board members through honesty, integrity, and authenticity
  • Represent the agency at community events as needed
  • Promote and maintain agency culture, standards, and systems
  • Participate in the CIS team approach to service delivery and problem solving
  • Perform other activities and duties as required by the Chief Development Officer

Computer Skills

  • Demonstrate thorough understanding of the functioning of donor database software (Abila Fundraising 50, The Raiser’s Edge, etc.)
  • Demonstrate competency with all Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, Excel, Word,Publisher and PowerPoint
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite design programs including Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop, a plus
  • Seek out formal or informal training to increase computer skills to more effectively perform jobjunctions


Reporting Structure:  This position is supervised by the Chief Development Officer.  May supervise interns and/or volunteers.
