Development Associate

The Development Associate an entry level position responsible for assisting the members of the development department in carrying out fund development activities to secure the resources needed to achieve organizational goals. The Associate provides support to and works in collaboration with other members of the development team and requires strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and multi-task.


  • A minimum of one year experience in an administrative position, preferably with a not-for-profit organization
  • Technical proficiency in managing database software (experience with Abila Fundraising 50 preferred)
  • Technical proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Superior customer service skills, exemplary oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and discretion when dealing with sensitive donor information
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite is preferred
  • Email marketing and social media experience is a plus

Essential Functions

  • Process all donations in donor database (Abila Fundraising 50)
  • Prepare timely acknowledgment letters and other correspondence
  • Answer inquiries and maintain records related to donations
  • Ensure ongoing database accuracy of all donor records
  • Produce reports that track month-to-month and year-to-date progress in areas such as response and conversion rates, participation, average gift size, donor retention, acquisition and related ROI metrics
  • Coordinate donor stewardship and engagement efforts
  • Coordinate annual giving campaigns including Amplify Austin, School Supply Drive and Holiday Appeal
  • Assist with communication and logistics for agency events
  • Provide on-site event support as needed
  • Represent the agency at community-based employee "giving fairs" as needed
  • Assist with in-kind donation processing and periodic donation pick-ups
  • Promote and maintain organizational culture, standards and systems
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Sr. Director of Development

  • Demonstrate the ability to clearly express the mission, values and programs of the organization in individual and large group settings

  • Establish a system for information sharing and follow-up

Computer Skills

  • Demonstrate proficiency with all Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrate thorough understanding of the functioning of donor database software, Abila Fundraising 50
  • Seek out formal or informal training to increase computer skills to more effectively perform job functions
  • Compile notes and other written information to share with co-workers and new staff to solve reoccurring computer issues and questions
  • Seek out formal or informal training to increase computer skills to more effectively perform job functions
  • Demonstrate an increase in proficiency over time with the basic use of computer equipment and standard software operations

Public Relations Skills

  • Communicate articulately, knowledgeably and appropriately for the audience

Reporting Structure:  This position is supervised by the Sr. Director of Development.
