Provost Memo: Announcing the newly formed Teaching & Learning Excellence Division

The content of this post is a copy of what Dr. Charles Cook, Provost/EVP of Academic Affairs, sent out to all faculty on August 29, 2017.

Good morning,

Since coming on board in December 2016, our new AVP of Instructional Services, Dr. Susan Thomason, has been working tirelessly with her staff to re-envision the way we offer services to ACC faculty. The convergence of these areas that exist to support the faculty experience for the benefit of our students has been a goal we’ve had in mind for quite some time. Under the leadership of Dr. Thomason the members of the newly minted “Teaching & Learning Excellence Division (TLED)” will collaborate to provide faculty resources and programs as a collective, rather than separate areas to promote our student success goals here at ACC.

Offices under the Teaching & Learning Excellence Division (TLED) include:

  • ACC Libraries
  • Office of Distance & Alternative Learning
  • Office of Curriculum Development
  • Office of Articulation & University Relations
  • Office of Instructional & Faculty Development
  • Office of Cooperative Education & Internships
  • Office of Service Learning
  • Office of Instructional Technology

The services provided through these areas will continue to be executed to the highest quality as they have in the past, with an eye toward innovating and partnering with faculty in as many ways as possible going forward.

You can expect some immediate changes to the way TLED communicates, including a brand new “one-stop shop” TLED website, a carefully curated newsletter (rather than sporadic emails from the various offices), monthly Live Stream updates to feature its services, and a focus on close alignment with faculty leadership. Previously, you may have received an academic wall calendar from Instructional Design Services. This group will continue to provide that service, but now as a collaborative effort through all the groups in TLED.

As a reminder, the General Assembly date has moved to September 29th. The Teaching & Learning Excellence Division (TLED) is reimagining this event as an opportunity for faculty and staff to become more involved with strategic planning. Stay tuned for more information & registration for the schedule of events for that date.

Please direct questions about the Teaching & Learning Excellence Division (TLED) to [email protected].

Thank you,

Charles
