Dividing Fractions

Fraction division is accomplished by first converting the division to multiplication. You may want to use the tool, KCF: Keep It, Change It, Flip It.

To divide fractions, you rewrite the division as multiplication by multiplying by the reciprocal of the fraction which follows the division symbol.

\frac{a}{b} \div \frac{c}{d} = \frac{a}{b} \cdot \frac{d}{c}

  1. Keep the first fraction.
  2. Change the division to multiplication.
  3. Flip the fraction that follows the division symbol. Watch the video to see this in action.
