Student Government Association (SGA) President Michael Wade has already been busy this semester advocating for ACC students.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve gotten diaper changing tables approved for installation on all campuses,\u201d Wade said. \u201cSo what we\u2019re going to do for the summer is follow up and ensure that happens.\u201d<\/p>\n
The student organization was also successful in having satellite television service approved for the Round Rock Campus.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese are items that were brought up on the campuses by the students themselves,\u201d Wade said. \u201cThese topics came up repeatedly as we spoke to students about what they wanted to see happen on campus.\u201d<\/p>\n
Every semester SGA sets up tables at ACC\u2019s campuses to check in with students and find out what issues are important to them. SGA\u2019s efforts on behalf of students also extend beyond campus.<\/p>\n
In February, Wade traveled to Washington with a delegation from ACC to attend the Community College National Legislative Summit.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe purpose of us going to Washington was to lobby on behalf of the students as far as Pell Grants,\u201d Wade said. \u201cLawmakers assured us that this year Pell Grants would not be affected even if sequestration occurred.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sequestration refers to the across- the-board budget cuts that would go into effect if Congress fails to produce a balanced budget or enact legislation to decrease the national deficit.<\/p>\n
The Student Government Association holds meetings from noon to 2 p.m. every Friday at the Highland Business Center. Meetings are open to the public.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
