Austin Community College\u2019s fall 2022 semester deadline for their <a href=\"https:\/\/austincc.academicworks.com\/\">general scholarship<\/a> application is May 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Written by Jonathan D. Gonzales<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Edited by<em> Pete Ramirez<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap wp-block-paragraph\">With ACC\u2019s general scholarship, students can be considered for more than one hundred different scholarships by submitting one application.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All of these scholarships are funded by the ACC Foundation which raises money throughout the year to ensure that all members of the community get an opportunity to pursue their dreams. In the past year, the foundation has handed out over $2.1 million in scholarships to ACC students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Being awarded a scholarship can usually cover the majority of expenses a student would need for classes and can also be used to improve a resume.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ACC\u2019s general scholarship and most others require applicants to write an essay about themselves and why they deserve to be selected for the award.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to one of Austin Community College\u2019s Strategic Programs Specialists Ann Schuber, there are a few things to keep in mind when writing your scholarship essay.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Answer every question thoroughly<\/strong>. This helps the reader understand what you&#8217;re saying in detail.\u00a0<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"2\"><li><strong>Make it a point to mention your major, classes and personal experience<\/strong> to make it unique and personal.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"3\"><li><strong>Don\u2019t be afraid to tell your story and boast about your accomplishments<\/strong>. Other awards you may have received can increase your chances of receiving a scholarship.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe main thing that students struggle with in creating these essays is starting it,\u201d Schuber said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Starting an essay can be quite difficult for many students. One way to approach it is to break down the essay into parts and try to complete one part every day. Before you know it, you\u2019ll have a solid piece of writing that you can work with and improve upon.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students who need assistance with any part of their scholarship essay should contact an ACC strategic specialist to guide them through the process.
