On that chilly Saturday in December,1972, voters residing within the boundaries of the Austin Independent School District gave birth to Austin Community College as an appendage of the AISD. ACC could not tax property-owners to raise money to meet operating expenses. Expenses would be paid for by student tuition and legislative appropriation. Thirty-five years later, in 2008, ACC had become the primary pathway into higher education and well-paying workforce employment in Central Texas.
