To boost the number of engineering graduates and come closer to meeting the demands for engineers in the state of Texas and the United States, Austin Community College’s president, Richard Rhodes, has initiated a partnership that would reduce the gap between junior and senior colleges in the perceptions of many people outside and even inside academia. According to the plan, engineering students would begin their coursework at ACC. A & M professors would teach basic engineering courses at ACC’s Highland campus. Students would complete their degree requirements at A & M’s College Station campus.

The program is underwritten by Chevron Corporation and is officially known as Texas A & M-Chevron Engineering Academy at ACC. The program has been duplicated at Houston Community College, Texas Southmost College in Brownsville, El Centro College in Dallas, and the Alamo Colleges in San Antonio. ACC also has partnerships with the University of Texas and Texas State University.
