The Real Texas Me: A retrospective of works by Jonas Criscoe

The Art Department’s Professor Jonas Criscoe’s retrospective exhibition at the Dougherty Arts Center opens Saturday, May 7th! Come to the opening reception on May 11, 7:00pm – 9:00pm and support ACC’s Professor Criscoe!

The Julia C. Butridge Gallery at the Dougherty Arts Center is proud to presents A retrospective of works by Jonas Criscoe exploring the influence of “Place” through the lens of landscape, materiality, and form.

Criscoe’s mixed media collages explore nature’s ability to reclaim the spaces and objects that we abandon. Utilizing various scavenged materials and appropriated imagery, Criscoe mimics the effects that wear and exposure has on materials to impart a sense of history and nostalgia through the surfaces of his works. Overlaid upon these facades are idioms of graffiti that act to reclaim these spaces with the voice of the individual, building up a densely layered patina— an aura of touch.
