This article<\/a> in Inside Higher Ed<\/em> focuses on the positive and significant impact that a faculty member can have on a student.\u00a0 We all know this, don’t we?\u00a0 We all had faculty mentors who made a difference for us on our higher ed journeys.<\/p>\n

I can still name some of my faculty mentors:\u00a0 Harold Sare, Danny Adkison, Franz von Sauer, Bruce Buchanan.\u00a0 (And yes, all my faculty mentors were male.\u00a0 That was life in political science when I was in college.)\u00a0 Can you name yours?\u00a0 I bet you can.<\/p>\n

\"\"We are launching a faculty mentoring program here.\u00a0 I wrote about it in an earlier post, so this is the second verse of the faculty mentoring song.\u00a0 The administrative rule<\/a> and guidelines<\/a> describe our vision for faculty mentoring.\u00a0 As you can see, when we drafted the rule we were calling it faculty advising.\u00a0 But really, it’s a mentoring role.\u00a0 This edition<\/a> of Academic Transfer in Focus<\/em> is a chat with the two faculty leaders of this effort.\u00a0 We have posted seven Instructional Associate (IA) positions for our launch of mentoring.\u00a0 We will hire seven adjunct faculty as IAs who will work 20 hours a week with their assigned caseload (approximately 330 students), developing the relationships that are the essence of mentoring.\u00a0 We will have four faculty mentors in the Liberal Arts, two in SEM (Science, Engineering, & Math) and one in Business.\u00a0 It’s a small start with big goals:<\/p>\n
