AARP Foundation
Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP)

AARP Foundation first matches eligible older job seekers with local nonprofits and public agencies so they can increase skills and build self-confidence while earning a modest income. Based on their employment interests and goals, participants may also receive supportive services and skills training through an educational institution. Their SCSEP experience most often leads to permanent employment.

Mobile Loaves and Fishes Ministry

Various ministries provide supportive services. The Mobile Loaves and Fishes ministry provides bus passes and financial support. “Congregational giving makes it possible to purchase discounted Capital Metro bus passes and HEB gift cards (which are used for a small payment on food or anything sold at HEB except tobacco, alcohol and the lottery) and for financial assistance. Financial assistance (seldom more than $25 and sometimes less) is given for rent, ID’s, birth certificates, prescriptions not available at HEB, out-of-town transportation, glasses, textbooks and work boots.

Asian Family Support Services of Austin
Economic Empowerment Program

Services are for survivors of domestic and sexual violence. Their mission statement “Asian Family Support Services of Austin (AFSSA) promotes abuse-free Asian communities through advocacy, support, awareness and access to social services.” Economic Empowerment Program clients are able to receive one-one-one counseling, job search, resume assistance, and trainings on financial literacy, life skills, and how to acclimate to the American workforce.

The Austin Area Urban League offers three programs:

Financial Empowerment

This program provides financial education to qualified individuals and families who complete the workshops. Various financial seminars are offered that educate on the process of finding and purchasing a home; the type of loans available; the process of securing a loan; budget management; and credit issues that could prevent potential buyers from securing a mortgage.

A City of Austin- and Travis County-funded network of community partners linked to help prepare Austin-area residents to enter or reenter today’s competitive job market. Health and Human Services Commission

The Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) has eight benefit offices that offer support services and community partners that assist with application for benefits.

HHSC Benefit Offices

SNAP Food Benefits – Helps families buy food for good health. TANF Cash Help – Helps families with children age 18 and younger pay for basic needs. Health Care – Helps cover visits to doctors, dentists, and hospitals. Also covers medicines ordered by doctors and dentists. Support Services – Helps people with daily living needs, caregivers, and people with mental health, drug or alcohol issues.
