A Note About BIOL 2404 – Introduction to A&P<\/h3>\n

BIOL 2404 – Intro to A&P is NOT the same as BIOL 2304\/2101 – Human Anatomy, nor is it the same as BIOL 2401 – Anatomy and Physiology I. It will NOT substitute for these courses. It will NOT serve as the prerequisite for BIOL 2305\/2102 – Human Physiology, or BIOL 2402 – Anatomy and Physiology II. BIOL 2404 is a course designed specifically to meet the A&P requirements of certain Health Science programs and is NOT designed as a preparatory course for BIOL 2304, BIOL 2401, or the Anatomy and Physiology assessment tests.<\/p>\n

A Note About BIOL 2304 – Human Anatomy<\/h3>\n

BIOL 2304 – Human Anatomy is an in depth and detailed study of the human body. \u00a0It is the prerequisite course for BIOL 2305 – Human Physiology. The two may NOT, therefore, be taken simultaneously. BIOL 2401 – A&P I will NOT substitute for BIOL 2304 – Human Anatomy as the prerequisite for BIOL 2305 – Human Physiology. Because A&P I only covers half the body systems and structures of the human body, it is NOT the same as Human Anatomy. **This course is no longer available at ACC as of Fall 2016<\/em><\/p>\n

A Note About BIOL 2420 – Microbiology for the Allied Health Sciences<\/h3>\n

One of the following prerequisites is required in order to register for BIOL 2420 – Microbiology for the Health Sciences:<\/p>\n

BIOL 1406 – Cellular and Molecular Biology<\/p>\n

BIOL 2404 – Introduction to A&P<\/p>\n

BIOL 2304\/BIOL 2101 – Human Anatomy<\/p>\n

BIOL 2401 – Anatomy and Physiology I<\/p>\n

This policy is STRICTLY enforced. On the first day of class, students will have to present proof that they have the prerequisite.<\/p>\n

Allied health and nursing students should enroll in BIOL 2420, Microbiology for Allied Health, which requires an Anatomy and Physiology prerequisite.<\/p>\n

While many allied health programs accept BIOL 2421, Microbiology for Science Majors, as a substitute, it is intended for science majors and requires the prerequisites: General Chemistry I (CHEM 1411) and Biology I (BIOL 1406), both with labs, and a grade of C or higher. Lecture-only science courses without laboratory components and non-science major courses, including Introduction to Chemistry (CHEM 1405), Biology (BIOL 1308\/1408), and Anatomy and Physiology courses, do not satisfy these prerequisites.<\/p>\n

A Note About The Sequence of Courses<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Many ACC Health Sciences programs require BIOL 2401, BIOL 2402, and BIOL 2420 as prerequisites. Due to the rigorous nature\u00a0of each of these courses, it is not recommended to take two of them in one semester. The Biology department recommends taking these\u00a0courses in the following sequence in order to balance the course load:<\/p>\n

Semester 1: BIOL 2401\u00a0–\u00a0A&P I\u00a0
\n<\/strong>Semester 2: BIOL 2402\u00a0–\u00a0A&P II
\n<\/strong>Semester 3: BIOL 2420 – Microbiology for the Allied Health Sciences<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
