{"id":1220,"date":"2015-12-21T15:57:36","date_gmt":"2015-12-21T15:57:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/bond\/?p=1220"},"modified":"2015-12-21T15:57:36","modified_gmt":"2015-12-21T15:57:36","slug":"end-of-year-update-on-elgin-campus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/bond\/end-of-year-update-on-elgin-campus\/","title":{"rendered":"End-of-year update on Elgin Campus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Elgin Campus architectural design firm met with the campus\u2019 steering committee on Friday, December 4, to begin planning for the $8.9 million expansion project.<\/p>\n<p>Discussions focused on unique needs of the college\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.austincc.edu\/info\/vettech\">Veterinary Technology<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/continue.austincc.edu\/agriculture\">Sustainable Agriculture Entrepreneurship<\/a> programs, based at the campus.<\/p>\n<p>Tentative plans for the Vet Tech Program include a surgical suite with 2-3 surgery tables, treatment areas, a radiology room, and feline and canine wards. Outdoor needs include pasture space for large animals such as cattle and horses, feed storage areas, and a cattle chute. The program anticipates instructional capacity for 48 first- and second-year students.<\/p>\n<p>Proposed plans for a Sustainable Agriculture campus farm include five to 10 acres for rotational crop space and an orchard, 10 acres for pasture, a crop washing\/packing area, climate-controlled food storage areas, and an industrial kitchen. The farm is to be certified organic, which impacts site planning for water runoff, buffer zones, wildlife habitat, and soil management.
