Competency-Based Education Consortium for Texas <\/strong><\/h1>\n

The mission of the Competency-Based Education Consortium (CBEC) is to share lessons-learned and best practices from the field in competency-based education (CBE), thus enabling post-secondary institutions to leverage CBE, paving a path from recruitment to mastery and, ultimately, employability.<\/p>\n

The creation of the CBEC has been generously funded through a Perkins State Leadership grant from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. In the future, the CBEC will merge with the Institute for Competency-Based Education<\/a> to continue the work of disseminating best practices.<\/p>\n

Competency Based Education (CBE) refers to a flexible learning paradigm that is focused more on the outcomes and the learner rather than the physical time spent in the classroom. The role of the instructor in a CBE model changes from \u201csage on the stage\u201d to \u201cguide on the side\u201d. In CBE, time becomes the variable and learning becomes the constant.<\/p>\n
