title=&#8221;Interview topic timestamps&#8221; open=&#8221;off&#8221; use_border_color=&#8221;off&#8221; border_color=&#8221;#ffffff&#8221; border_style=&#8221;solid&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #914455\">00:38<\/span> \u2013 IMPORTANCE OF CBE IN HIGHER EDUCATION LANDSCAPE<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">CBE is a critical component of modern education system<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p1\">Many people now coming into colleges and universities from non-traditional backgrounds<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">They bring with them knowledge from internships, work, military or self-education online<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">CBE is the marriage between being able to do competencies and recognition by an educational institution of the task<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #914455\">01:55<\/span> \u2013 IMPORTANCE OF BUILDING INDUSTRY PARTNERSHIPS<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p1\">Goal is to create competent employees, therefore, need to know what industry partners need<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">Industry partners delighted to be asked what competencies they need and in turn made them think in more academic terms<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">2-3 key industry partners to start a CBE program is critical<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #914455\">03:12<\/span> \u2013 WHEN TO ADD INDUSTRY PARTNERS TO CBE PROGRAM<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p1\">It was a requirement for DOL grant at ACC to bring in two industry partners \u2013 National Instruments and Dell<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">However, since one of the key deliverables was getting students jobs, made sense to build much larger network of industry partnerships<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #914455\">04:17<\/span> \u2013 ALIGNING CURRICULUM TO INDUSTRY NEEDS<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p1\">For APT program, developed an Industry Review Panel where multiple industry partners loaned line managers (who would ultimately manage the APT graduates) to talk directly to professors<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">Input was very useful in developing current, relevant content<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">Mutually beneficial relationship developed between industry partners and faculty<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">Exemplary faculty allowed to chose which input to put in their curriculum<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">Courses were reviewed by faculty peers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #914455\">07:30<\/span> \u2013 IMPORTANCE OF DATA COLLECTION<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p1\">Because pilot program, knew there was potential for errors and started monitoring all the demographic areas immediately<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">Data gathered first semester showed results that enabled program to adapt to student needs and help them succeed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #914455\">10:01<\/span> \u2013 GRANTS AVAILABLE FOR INSTITUTIONS WANTING TO PURSUE CBE<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Multiple funding sources available<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p1\">TAACCCT (Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College Career Training) Grant and multiple spin-offs<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB)<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">Other private grants interested in CBE<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #914455\">11:46<\/span><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp; <\/span>\u2013 PROFILE OF STUDENTS COMING INTO APT PROGRAM<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p1\">Average age \u2013 37 years old<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">75% already had a college degree<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">About 70% currently employed<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">Looking to retrain and get into lucrative computer programming career<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">Because of this more mature student population, knew that if they struggled it would not be due to routine reasons<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">Data showed the students needed the additional support of a Student Support Specialist<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #914455\">13:12<\/span><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp; <\/span>\u2013 RECRUITMENT EVENTS TO BRING IN STUDENTS TO CBE PROGRAM<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p1\">DOL grant required a minimum number of students<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">Rather than traditional flyers and posters, Chamber of Commerce held recruiting events and supported various outreach and marketing efforts<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">Also did radio ads for first year<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">After first year program started selling itself<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">For recruitment events, brought all the relevant departments together &#8211; Financial aid, Veterans Affairs, Computer Science Department Chair, to streamline enrollment process and to interview students to determine qualifications<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #914455\">17:06<\/span><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;
