Balcones Prize

We believe writers deserve to be compensated for the vital work they do. Each year, we select an outstanding book of fiction and a collection of poetry for a Balcones Literary Prize. To help support their continued work, the winners of this prize receive $1,500 each. If you’re interested in submitting a work of fiction or poetry, please read the following guidelines.

Balcones Prize for Poetry

The Balcones Center for Creative Writing at Austin Community College is pleased to announce the Balcones Poetry Prize ($1,500) in recognition of an outstanding book of poetry.

• Prize Information Eligibility: Books of poetry of 42 pages or more may be submitted by author or publisher; send three copies; books must bear a publication date between January 1, 2023 and December 31, 2023.
• Nominations Accepted: September 1, 2023 – February 28, 2024.
• Reading fee: $25
• After completing the submission form, mail 3 copies of the book to:
