This includes, but is not limited to, generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Copilot, Claude), AI-powered search engines, code assistants, automated summarizers, image generators, data analysis tools, and any software that uses machine learning to assist, generate, evaluate, or modify content.<\/p>\n<p>This policy is designed to help you understand:<br \/>\u2022 When and how AI tools may be used appropriately to support your learning<br \/>\u2022 When AI use is limited or prohibited<br \/>\u2022 Your responsibility when incorporating AI into academic work<\/p>\n<p>Our goal is to promote ethical, transparent, and responsible use of AI while preserving academic integrity and meaningful skill development.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><b>Rationale<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>The CS&amp;IT Division recognizes that AI technologies are increasingly embedded in professional computing, business, and technical environments. Students must learn how to use AI effectively and responsibly as part of their workforce preparation.<\/p>\n<p>This policy balances:<br \/>\u2022 Encouraging responsible AI use aligned with industry practices<br \/>\u2022 Preserving your opportunity to develop foundational skills<br \/>\u2022 Maintaining fairness and transparency in assessment<br \/>\u2022 Ensuring compliance with academic integrity standards<\/p>\n<p>AI is a tool to enhance learning, not a substitute for learning.<\/p>\n<ul><\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><b>Definition of GAI<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>For this policy, AI includes any digital system that uses machine learning, natural language processing, automation, or predictive modeling to assist in generating, analyzing, modifying, or evaluating content.<\/p>\n<p>This includes, but is not limited to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Generative AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, Gemini, etc.)<br \/><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><\/span><\/li>\n<li>AI coding assistants (GitHub Copilot, CodeWhisperer, etc.)<br \/><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\">AI-enhanced search engines<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\">AI image, video, or media generators<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\">Automated paraphrasing or summarization tools<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\">AI-based debugging or error-correction systems<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\">AI-driven writing enhancement beyond basic spellcheck\/grammar<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\">Any automated system that produces academic or technical work on your behalf<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Basic spellcheck and grammar tools are generally excluded unless they substantially alter content or structure.<\/p>\n<h3><b>Resources<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">When GAI use is permitted, students should learn to use these tools ethically and effectively.
