Kelly Barratt knows that when it comes to preparing a career, nothing compares with hands-on experience.
“To see firsthand the things we learned and discussed in class — both good and bad — was such a great experience. At ACC’s Children’s Lab School, I eventually ran the class myself. I don’t care how many books you read or classes you ace, NOTHING can prepare you like real-world experience.”
For someone seeking a career nurturing children, relationships are important. That’s why choosing ACC over a larger university made sense to Kelly. “The relationships I’ve built with the instructors and children at the Lab School were the best part about my program, hands down. My instructors at ACC are more than just staff.”

Kelly’s undergraduate practicum and occasional substitute teaching in the Children’s Lab School led to a full-time position. That doesn’t mean she is done with her education. She plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree with the ultimate goal of becoming a child life specialist at a children’s hospital.
“I have learned so much here, and I am so thankful I made the decision to pursue my career goals at ACC. ACC just feels like home to me.”
