{"id":340,"date":"2018-01-09T16:02:31","date_gmt":"2018-01-09T16:02:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/econ\/?page_id=340"},"modified":"2025-11-06T18:55:14","modified_gmt":"2025-11-06T18:55:14","slug":"program","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/econ\/program\/","title":{"rendered":"Courses"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>Course Descriptions<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The ACC Economics department offers two courses: <strong>Principles of Macroeconomics<\/strong> and <strong>Principles of Microeconomics.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Read the <a href=\"https:\/\/www6.austincc.edu\/cms\/site\/www\/catalog\/catalog.php?cat=2026&amp;type=CC&amp;group=TFSSE&amp;nid=30415\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">course descriptions for the general courses<\/a> offered by the ACC Economics Department.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Course Objectives<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Course: Principles of Macroeconomics<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Students who complete this course will be able to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>critically evaluate GDP, unemployment, and inflation data;<\/li>\n<li>explain the business cycle and its phases;<\/li>\n<li>manipulate the basic Aggregate Supply, Aggregate Demand model of the macro economy;<\/li>\n<li>explain fiscal policy tools and defend and criticize the usage fiscal policy;<\/li>\n<li>describe how a fractional reserve banking system works;<\/li>\n<li>explain monetary policy tools and defend and criticize the usage monetary policy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Course: Principles of Microeconomics<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Students who complete this course will be able to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>apply the basic concepts of scarcity and opportunity cost;<\/li>\n<li>manipulate the basic demand and supply model to determine an equilibrium price and quantity; changes to equilibrium price and quantity, and their impact on resource allocation;<\/li>\n<li>critically evaluate the usage of policy in microeconomic markets<\/li>\n<li>explain the theory of consumer behavior;<\/li>\n<li>explain the theory of the firm;<\/li>\n<li>model and explain the theoretical market structures of perfect competition and imperfect competition.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Economics Program Student Learning Outcomes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Model and explain under what circumstances markets are capable of creating socially optimal and socially suboptimal outcomes;<\/li>\n<li>Defend and criticize the role of economic policy in a mixed market economy.<\/li>\n<li>and Critically evaluate economic data.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Course Descriptions The ACC Economics department offers two courses: Principles of Macroeconomics and Principles of Microeconomics.
