The semester is off to a great start! I hope you\u2019ve had the chance to work with wonderful students, faculty colleagues, and staff. There is already a lot going on, and I invite you to learn more by reading this week\u2019s Senate Standard.<\/p>\n
1\/24\/20 Senate Meeting \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0Minutes and agenda are now posted on the senate website.<\/p>\n 2\/14\/20 Senate Meeting<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 noon to 2pm HBC 301\u00a0 \u2013 This is the first call for agenda items for our February meeting. Please send items for consideration to me at\u00a0mpatters@austincc.edu<\/a>\u00a0or to your campus senator.<\/p>\n New Reporting Rules<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Starting January 1, there are new rules regarding reporting of sexual assault, harassment, dating violence and stalking. You should have received an email from Charlene Buckley on January 14 entitled \u201cImportant Legislative Update\u201d. Please take a moment to review that information to ensure that you are in compliance. You can learn more, and find the form for reporting at\u00a0www.austincc.edu\/compliance<\/a>.<\/p>\n Parking Grace Period<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Ends February 6. Be sure to get a permit before that date!<\/p>\n The Academic Master Planning (AMP)<\/strong>\u00a0process will continue on February 7 with Area of Study meetings. Learn more about it on the timeline portion of the\u00a0AMP website<\/a>. Reach out to your department chair or dean if you want to be a part of your Area of Study team!<\/p>\n Rio Grande Attache Building Cleanout<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Due to upcoming construction, this entire building needs to be cleaned out. If you have anything in the building, February 28 is the final deadline to get your things out. Anything left after that date will be disposed of.<\/p>\n Food and Housing Insecurity<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Last Fall, ACC participated in a student survey called \u201cThe RealCollege Survey\u201d. It investigates many things, but among them, student homelessness and student food insecurity. A full report will be released in February, but for now you should be aware that of our students who responded to the survey, 42% are food insecure, and 53% are housing insecure. In an upcoming Senate Standard, I\u2019ll be sharing some ways we as faculty can help. For now, recognize that when students in class seem sleepy, disengaged, or unprepared, it may be a reaction to these realities rather than anything else we might assume.
