Please allow enough time if you have lived out state.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>All background checks must be ordered from Complio within the<strong> designated semester deadlines<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Fall Admissions: May 15 &#8211; July 15<\/li>\n<li>Spring Admissions: October 1 &#8211; December 1<\/li>\n<li>Summer Admissions: February 15 &#8211; April 15<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1750968610191{margin-bottom: 20px !important;}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><b>Purpose<\/b><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Community Standards for criminal background checks were developed in conjunction with the Healthcare Workforce Alliance of Central Texas (HWACT) to meet clinical agency compliance with Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) standards pertaining to human resource management and to comply with state and federal laws. JCAHO requires verification of competency of all individuals who have direct contact with patients or employees; this includes students doing clinical rotations in the facility. Competency extends beyond technical skills to an individual\u2019s criminal history.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1776356975442{margin-bottom: 20px !important;}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><b>Complio<\/b><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><b>Criminal Background Checks are conducted through <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/health\/complio\/\">Complio by American Data Bank<\/a>.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Results from other agencies will not be accepted. Instructions for ordering your criminal background check through Complio will be provided by your department.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1750968624590{margin-bottom: 20px !important;}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><b>Implementation<\/b><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Successful completion of a criminal background check is required for admission and continuation in all Health Sciences Programs. Students will be given specific directions from the program about how to obtain the background check.<\/span><b> Do not submit an order until you receive directions from the department.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Background checks will be honored for the duration of the student\u2019s enrollment in the clinical program if the participating student has not had a break in the enrollment of a Health Science class. A break in enrollment is defined as nonattendance of one full eligible semester or more. The above information must be verifiable through the college\/school and must be sent to the clinical agency.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1750968670370{margin-bottom: 20px !important;}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><b>Criminal Background Check<\/b><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Successful completion of a criminal background check is required for admission and continued enrollment in all Health Sciences programs. The background check includes:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A 7-year multi-county felony and misdemeanor search<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A 7-year employment verification (up to two employers)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Identity verification<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Sanction and exclusion checks on national and state databases<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The following histories will disqualify an individual from consideration for admission because the student would not be eligible for clinical placement:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Registered sex offenders<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Exclusions from national or state criminal databases, including federal exclusion lists and misconduct registries (e.g., OIG, GSA, OFAC, TX HHSC)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Felony convictions<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Felony deferred adjudications involving crimes against persons (physical or sexual abuse)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Known or observed abuse or neglect of patients\/clients\/customers.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Observed or proven theft<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Convictions of violent acts (misdemeanor or felony)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Misapplication of fiduciary property or property of a financial institution (Class A misdemeanor or felony)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Securing execution of a document by deception (Class A misdemeanor or felony)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Violence in the workplace.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ineligibility for rehire<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>For students accepted to a clinical program with access to a licensing\/registry body review process:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If an individual does not meet one or more of the aforementioned standards, she\/he may pursue a declaratory order process with her\/his licensing\/registry body.
